February is Psychology Month and we recently honored this year’s winners of the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards. Staples Contact Centre, the NS College of Physicians and Surgeons, Precision BioLogic and Corporate Research Associates were all recognized for their efforts to promote employee wellbeing.
They qualified for the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award as a result of a process that includes a detailed application, a survey of employees and a site visit from two appraisers. The intent of this involved process is to assess how well applicants for the award promoted the physical and psychological health, safety, and wellness of employees; whether they were “family friendly”; how they encouraged employee growth and development; the extent to which they involved employees in decision-making; and how they recognized and supported employee accomplishments and initiatives.
In addition to hearing about how these firms have established healthy workplace practices, a highlight of the awards ceremony was our guest speaker Paul Kells – the founder and President of the Safe Communities Foundation. Paul challenged us to make a difference in enhancing health and safety in our workplaces and communities – something that our award winners are already doing.
